Future in racing looks bright for young Iroquois driver
By Conan Devries – EMC St. Lawrence – February 9, 2011
EMC Sports – He started out racing go-karts at the age of 11, but six years and 600 horsepower later, Luke Whitteker of Iroquois races behind the wheel of a 358 Modified dirt car.
The 17-year-old Seaway District High School student is now preparing for his sophomore season after a stellar debut last year in the Modified Division.
Finishing a 40-race season with four wins, 21 top fives, and 26 top tens, Whitteker had an outstanding season by any standard, let alone compared to what one might expect of a rookie teenaged driver.

Luke ended the season 10th place overall out of more then 60 drivers that made at least one start in the series in 2010.

Last weekend, Luke Whitteker and his Iroquois, Ontario based team left their shop early on Thursday morning and headed to the New York State Fairgrounds. Whitteker turned a few laps in qualifying, knowing that they weren’t there to compete, but to make a qualifying attempt to get the points that come with running Syracuse. While Whitteker would have liked to run the entire race, without the necessary funding, it just makes it impossible for a small family operated team to have success in this event.

Bobby Herrington entered Saturday night’s Applefest Shootout at the Brighton Speedway hoping for a strong finish to the 2010 racing season. Herrington had to come from the back of the field for the 50 lap main event, and at the checkered flag, he was in eighth place.
“We were hoping for a much better finish on our last night of season, but the car just didn’t handle the way I hoped. We battled with it all night long and it was better in the feature, but we still needed to make some more changes”, says Herrington.
